i know im bad but 1st time using cs3 and ima get better

i got a couple of questions tho:

1st question: how do i add text?
do i have to make another layer to add it?

2nd question: on one of the tut
it said i had to put scalene pattern
but i dont have it, so i used checker pattern.
where do i get scalene pattern?

Lol for putting text on your sig just press the big T ( the tool bar on your left and it'll automatic make a layer ;)

yes just click on the big T then you can add effects to it like make it dark make it lite change the color etc etc.
