Learning d3d

Not sure if this is the right section, but...

I'm looking to eventually make a d3d hack for Warrock but I'm wondering is it better to learn about detouring beforehand. As I see a lot of people saying chams is detected?

Well any advice much appreciated.

I don't use a detour for mine and the chams aren't detected >_> Though I did change a few strings..
