Can australians play on MapleSEA?

I'm new to maple story, i want to download it. My friend from Singapore wants me to play with him on MapleSEA, but he says it might not work. Other than me wasting time to download 1.8GB on the installer to find out it won't work... does anyone know if Australians can play on MapleSEA?

I think you can play MapleSEA but you will lag like hell since Australian is not part of South East Asia.

I need something confirming that Australians can actually play MapleSEA. I'm being misled by other sources (friends, people on forums etc) but none actually say if Austalians can actually play on mSEA.
