[HELP] making icons [Archive]

hey does anybody know how to make a icon with paint...... like the icons on shortcuts for programs and stuff. if this cannot be done with paint then can any1 tell me a program i can use? please reply if you can help.

you can do it but its not as nice looking as with photoshop

u can get it on ........... just read the comments and make sure it doesnt have any viruses

No warez you should know better:P

Ontopic: You can make logos in paint, but it wont look as good as photoshop logo's (If you know what you're doing)

you can make one in Paint, but you cant save it as an icon file,
save it as a PNG and then goto: http://convertico.com
and convert it to an icon.

urg...i make my icons with microsoft visual 6, but hard to get it to look professional and smooth like, any of the professional companies =[ anybody got ideas? I've tried using photoshop and used http://convertico.com to convert my png to an ico, but it leaves the white background thing =[
